Music Monday: Lazarus

On September 19, 2014, I wrote the following on IPR:

New York City — my old stomping grounds — a modern day $odom and Gomorrah — the sewers are cleaner than the streets — the Republican Party owns a suite in Trump Tower where they put on Burlesque shows every Thursday night. It’s nothing to worry about. Libertarians are fine.

“Come on up for the rising”

Years later, David Bowie released this song, with the title of my name (Lazarus) and a passage mirroring what I wrote above:

By the time I got to New York (my old stomping grounds)

I was living like a king (a suite in Trump Tower)

Then I used up all my money (a modern day $odom and Gomorrah)

I was looking for your ass (Burlesque shows)

This way or no way (It’s nothing to worry about)

You know, I’ll be free (Libertarians are fine)

Just like that bluebird (Come on up for the rising)

Now ain’t that just like me (Lazarus)

Did I inspire Bowie to write this song?  Maybe.  The thematic similarities between the song and my blurb on IPR cannot be denied.  Plus, the blurb was written before Bowie wrote the song.  Perhaps most telling, I used the name “Lazarus the Great” as the author of the blurb, while the title of the song is “Lazarus” even though this name is not mentioned in the song (it is an allusion to the story in the Gospel of John of Jesus rising Lazarus of Bethany from the dead).  There is a strong possibility Bowie read my post and then wrote the song (or at least the passage above) in response.

Kareem Caliente calls my 2014 blurb “prescient” not only because of its foreshadowing of “Lazarus” but because I made the connection between the Republican Party and Donald Trump before anyone had any idea he would run for President, much less become the Republican Party presidential nominee and President itself.  Perhaps with the sarcastic tone of the final two sentences I foresaw the death of Libertarianism (as Nathan Norman declared last week), and then with reference to the Springsteen song “The Rising,” I saw the rise of the Alt-Right from the corpse of Libertarianism, just like Lazarus.

Maybe I’m a prophet.  Or maybe I’m just lucky.

Big Dawg Arrested

IPR-X contributor Big Dawg was arrested yesterday for felony assault.  It was his third felony offense, meaning he’ll most likely be going back to prison for a very long time.  I’ve taken the liberty of removing his privileges as a contributor.  I also reviewed the articles he posted here and found them to be lacking in the quality we expect here at IPR-X.  These articles have been removed.  It pains me to have to do all this.  Big Dawg is a friend.  I and everyone else at IPR-X wish him all the best.

This is the second contributor IPR-X has lost in the past week.  It appears I was wrong when I placed value on the idea of diversity, at least in the realm of race and sexual orientation.  Our current writers are unique in their own ways.  I am the founder and face of IPR-X and a former presidential candidate.  Kareem Caliente is an expert in the arts and entertainment and longs for a return of the Roman Empire.  Moses Austwin is an historian who wants to see the Confederacy rise again and for Texas to be reestablished as a Republic.   Lastly, Magnus Dahlstrøm, our newest writer, is putting together his own religion based on various prophesies.

As I previously mentioned, more writers are coming.  They will bring interesting perspectives and insights.  Plus, anyone reading this who may wish to join IPR-X may do so as well.  Make your interest known in the comments below.

Kareem Dreams of a New Roman Empire

The Roman Empire at its height.

In response to the interview of alt-right leader Richard Spencer where he discusses, among other things, his goal of reestablishing the Roman Empire, IPR-X contributor Kareem Caliente, who is of Lebanese and Italo-Argentine descent, had this to say:

I share Spencer’s vision of reestablishing the Roman Empire. I’d love to see Iberia, Gaul, Italy, Dalmatia, Greece, Asia Minor, the Levant, Egypt, and Northern Africa all joined back together under a strong central government based in Rome and Constantinople. This is how peace can be achieved in the region and Islam neutralized. I dream of myself as the emperor, a just yet firm emperor like Justinian the Great. Renovatio imperii becomes a reality in modern times. It’s just a dream, but fun to think about.

Just Leave a Message, Maybe I’ll Call

Hot Kareem

ME: Important questions must be asked especially to Mr. Sarwark. I found these at https://rwm4prez2012.wordpress.com/2016/05/18/libertarians-a-call-for-purge-boycott/

“1. Are you jewish?
2. Are you not jewish but support Israel?
3. Are you a dhs/fbi or Mossad agent or operative?”

ANDY: I believe that is the site of Robert Milnes, a person with whom I do not want to associate.

Interestingly enough, I recall hearing that somebody researched Milnes site and found out that it was put up by some Republican campaign operative. I suspect that it is some how connected with the trolling that has gone on here at IPR. Milnes may be some nutty person that was recruited and is being led by handlers to try to make Libertarians look bad.

JAY: “a person with whom I do not want to associate.”

Pity, it seems you would have a lot in common.

ANDY: Well I will tell you what Jay…
